Dr Yusuke INOUE gave a lecture to the PPIP on healthcare AI and ethical, legal and social issues
The 4th Patient and Public Involvement panel (PPIP) meeting for the AIDE project was held on the 18th August from 19:00 to 21:00. We invited Dr. Yusuke INOUE, an associate professor at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo, to this meeting and he give a lecture on ethical, legal and social issues in healthcare AI for our PPIP members. He started by discussing the difficult task of defining AI and then moved on to considering ethical and social issues from various angles drawing on data from Japan and the UK. There was a lively discussion following the lecture with all PPIP members asking meaningful questions. Both the PPIP members and the research team have no doubt gained new and important points of knowledge and understanding. Some may have changed their opinions of AI in healthcare. Through this meeting, we have even higher expectations for the PPIP activities from now on.
